Liner notes

APPxygen is a one-person studio making apps for your phone. The name is a pun on oxygen: small things that give life to the hardware you already own. A hinge becomes a cassette door. A phone becomes a field recorder.

How it's made

Apps that feel like devices, not screens. Keys that clack, with their own sounds and haptics. Reels you can grab. Labels you write by hand. If a real machine would let you do it with your thumb, the app should too.

House rules

No accounts, no ads, no tracking. Foldman doesn't even ask for internet access. Write to the studio; a person answers.

Foldman

Close the lid. Press play.

Your foldable becomes a cassette deck. Open it to pick a tape, close it to play. Every album is a tape that stands in a rack, keeps its place, auto-reverses and slowly wears in: it yellows, picks up scratches, and gets dirt you can rub off with a finger.

Made for book-style foldables, tuned first for the Galaxy Z Fold 8. No songs come in the box: it plays music you own. Get the APK today; the Google Play Store version is coming soon.

  • openthe cassette door: pick a tape, drag it into the deck
  • half openthe service hatch: folders, wind speed, tape wear
  • closedthe deck: the cover screen is the player
No internet permission. At all. Free · v1.0 Google Play: soon

the cover screen is the deck. piano keys clack, with haptics STOP twice = eject!
Inner screen: a cassette rack of six labelled tapes beside an empty deck that says drag a tape here.

A tape's J-card opened over the rack, listing side A and side B tracks, with Edit label and Maintenance buttons.
hold a tape to read its card. write the label by hand or typewriter (Thai too)
The service hatch: a cassette held in the mechanism with the head carriage retracted.
half open = service hatch. wind it with a finger in the hub, chill a stretched tapehover a xerox to see it in colour
